| Our
journeys to Guatemala focus on the
Peten, the northern most region of
Guatemala. This area is largely covered
by dense tropical forests. Here lies
the Maya Biosphere Reserve, a 1 million
hectare protected area that houses
incredible biodiversity. This reserve
connects with the Calakmul Biosphere
Reserve in Mexico and the Rio Bravo
Conservation Area in Belize to create
a protected area of over 2 million
hectares (about 5 million acres).
Also within the jungle lies the great
Mayan city of Tikal, one of the most
important ancient Mayan sites. The
towers of Tikal peer out from the
jungle canopy, displaying incredible
architectural ingenuity from 700 AD.
During a visit to Tikal the present
day inhabitants look down upon us
from above - spider and howler monkeys,
tucans and parrots abound.
We also can customize trips to
Piedras Negras, Uaxactun, Antigua
and almost anywhere in between.
