The Galapagos
Islands are like no other place in
this world. Located on the equator,
about 600 miles west of mainland Ecuador,
these islands are among the most ecologically
unique and unspoiled areas on the
planet. The isolation of the archipelago's
thirteen islands and forty small islets,
combined with its climatic, geologic,
and oceanographic characteristics,
has allowed the evolution of species
found nowhere else on earth. These
conditions aided Charles Darwin in
the development of his theory of evolution
by means of natural selection. This
archipelago has been declared a National
Park, Marine Reserve, World Heritage
Site, Biosphere Reserve, and Whale
Sanctuary. In addition, it has been
named one of the last remaining paradises
on earth and one of the best scuba
diving sites in the world.
The Galapagos Islands are world renown
for their curious fauna, many of which
seem to have no fear of humans, allowing
up-close and personal wildlife interactions.
During our tour, we will have ample
wildlife viewing opportunities, allowing
us to take a peek at the life of the
intriguing inhabitants of these islands. |
